There are many common household pests that can invade homes and cause damage, spread germs, and just be plain annoying. Let’s go over a few examples of common household pests and how to identify them.

1. Ants

Ants are one of the most common household pests, and they can be difficult to get rid of once they have established a nest in your home. You can identify ants by their six legs and narrow waist. Some common types of ants that are found in homes include carpenter ants, odorous house ants, and pavement ants. If you want to learn more about these 3 different types of ants you can go here.

2. Bedbugs

Bedbugs are small, flat insects that feed on the blood of humans and animals. They are reddish brown in color and are often found in the seams of mattresses, couches, and other furniture. They can be hard to spot but a sign you may have them is if you notice small red bites on your skin.

3. Earwigs

Earwigs are small, with flat bodies that range in color from a pale brown to black color, they have six legs and thin antenna. The most noticeable feature is the pinchers that protrude from the back of their abdomen.

4. Spiders

There are so many different kinds of spiders that we wouldn’t be able to go over all the different identifying markers on them. All spiders have eight legs and two body regions. Not all spiders are dangerous but coming across any spider can be startling. Some common spiders found in homes include black widows, brown recluses, house spiders, jumping spiders, and cellar spiders.

4. Mice

Mice are extremely common and can quickly become a big problem because female mice can give birth when they are only two months old and can have up to a dozen babies every three weeks! A house mice’s fur color can vary from light brown to dark gray. They range in size from around 2 inches to just under 4 inches and their tails can be just as long.

These are just some of the common household pests that can be found in homes. While some can cause more problems than others no one wants to share their home with any pests.
